Dr Merridie Fury

In the Cabarita Surgery you’ll find Dr Merridie. When she is not handing out liver treats in the waiting room you’ll often find her out the back with her head in a textbook. Better yet, you’ll find her in her favourite place - the surgery - performing life saving operations. Dr Merridie graduated from Sydney University in 1977, and has a wealth of experience in small animal medicine and surgery. She likes to joke about becoming old and needing glasses, but she is still the driving force behind the practice. Besides, the dogs won’t mind when she finds it a little harder to get off the floor – whenever she’s down at their level it means they get more attention! She spent her time working in country NSW, Tasmania and Brisbane before settling with her family in beautiful Cabarita Beach. It was her daughter, Sara, who originally decided that her mum had to set up her own practice, so like all good parents Merridie obliged. Sara eagerly following her mother’s footsteps, graduating from Vet last year, and is currently working in Victoria, "learning other people's bad habits" as she puts it. Dr Merridie likes to keep herself very busy, so when her children moved to Brisbane to go to Uni, she filled what little spare time she has by taking on her Masters Degree through Murdoch University, Western Australia. This challenging degree was just an excuse for Merridie to keep up with the latest medical techniques – and now she has even more letters after her name! Dr Merridie has a very keen interest in surgery, so combined with her internal medicine skills the pets of the Tweed Coast can feel very safe knowing she is their doctor. Dr Merridie is a very friendly and knowledgeable vet, much loved by her patients. You’ll even find them straining on the lead to enter the vet clinic - just so they can receive a tasty treat or two! (or three or four). I’m sure all of you who know Merridie agree that she really is “the vet with heart.”
